Analysis X-Ray - Use And Restricted Service
Course Objective:
The aim of this course, a pre-requisite to obtaining a license, is to train personnel who intend to perform services on industrial equipment that produces x-ray radiation, in principles of radiation safety.Personnel who perform restricted service are required to hold a license in compliance with state legislation.
Area of Industry Serviced:
Radiation and Radioactivity.
Principles of Protection.
Radiation Monitoring.
Review of Legislation, Regulations and Standards.
Calculations required by the Code of Practice.
Course Content:
- Basic background physics.
- Principles of production and properties of x-rays.
- Units of measurement.
- Principles of x-ray tube power supplies and safety interlocks.
- Principles of protection.
- Problem solving involving the inverse square law.
- Biological effects of radiation.
- Radiation in perspective.
- Types and use of radiation detection equipment.
- Safety procedures.
- Legal requirements, including the "Code Of Practice".
- Accidents and incidents.
- Practical component using monitoring equipment.
Course Duration:
Two days plus a half day for an approved qualifying examination.
Competency Level:
On completion of the
course the trainee should be able to pass the approved qualifying
examination and competently operate and service x-ray equipment and minimise
doses received to such a level that the hazards are virtually
zero.
