Transporting of Radioactive Substances
Course Objective:
To provide the participants with the required information and training so that on completion they will possess the skills and knowledge for the safe packaging and transport of radioactive substances
Key Subjects:
Radiation and Radioactivity.
Principles of Protection.
Radiation Monitoring.
Review of Legislation, Regulations and Standards.
Calculations required by the Code of Practice.
Expected Outcomes:
A basic knowledge of radioactivity and radiation.A knowledge of the "Code of Practice for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Substances 1990".
A knowledge of the applicable Western Australian legislation including the Radiation Safety Act 1975 and Radiation Safety (General) Regulations 1983.
The ability to classify materials for transport and the precautions to be taken when transporting radioactive material.
Basic knowledge of the various documentation to be used to assist in transporting radioactive materials such as shippers declaration forms, appropriate labelling, vehicle hazard signs and placards.
Course Duration:
One day which includes an approved qualifying examination.Competency
Level:
On completion of the
course the trainee should be able to pass the approved qualifying
examination which is considered a satisfactory pre-requisite to
obtaining a licence to transport radioactive substances.
