Fixed Gauges - Industrial
Course Objective
This course is designed to provide the required
level of expertise to enable personnel to understand the legislative requirements and
obligations incurred by the licensee or registrant and to operate and or supervise the
operation and user maintenance of fixed gauges.
Area Of Industry Served
Fixed gauges covered in this course may be used
for industrial applications such as density measurement, level detection and instream
analysis of mineral slurries etc.
Course Content
- Units of measurement.
- Basic background physics
- Principles of protection.
- Problem solving involving the inverse square law, shielding and time.
- Biological effects of radiation.
- Radiation in perspective.
- Types and use of radiation detection equipment.
- Safety procedures.
- Legal requirements, including the "Code Of Practice".
- Transport of radioactive materials.
- Accidents and incidents.
Course Duration
Three and a half days plus a half day for an
approved qualifying examination.
Competency Level
On completion of the course the trainee should be
able to pass the approved qualifying examination and competently operate static gauges and
minimise doses received to such a level that the hazards are minimal.
