Sales & Hire

RADIATION SAFETY SERVICES is a West Australian company which provides a comprehensive radiation protection service to holders of ionising and non-ionising radiation sources. Our focus is to provide our customers with a quality, cost effective service that enables them to meet their radiation safety obligations.

Radiation Safety Services also manufactures their own container, the SM24 and transport module. (see below)

SM 24 Type B Multi Purpose Source Container

For Continuous Level Detection Of Autoclave Contents

The SM24 container when mounted inside its Transport Module is designed to meet the IAEA transport regulation requirements for a Type B shipping container. It is designed to accommodate high activity, high energy gamma sources for a number of applications including gauging and transport. The maximum Co60 source activity should exceed 37 TBq (1000 Ci) for transport applications and 7.4 TBq (200 Ci) for industrial gauging applications. Depending on desired specifications, the container can be designed to emit a radiation beam with a divergent angle of between 0 and 40 degrees. The transport version has a source cavity volume of approximately 70 cubic centimetres. The mounting structure is designed to withstand vibration and the container can be mounted with the long axis vertical or horizontal.

The design of the shutter mechanism is extremely simple and fail safe. Positive lock out of the shutter mechanism prevents switching errors and allows the beam on condition to be recognised from a distance of more than 30 metres.

The SM 24 Container / Transport Module combination is currently being assessed for type B certification. The fire and drop tests have been completed. The certification documentation is expected to be completed by March 2001.

The SM 24  Module combination is extremely rugged. Actual tests exceeded expectations. An examination of the SM 24 after the module combination had been subjected to the 9m drop test and a 800 deg C thermal test revealed the paint on the outer surface of the SM 24 and the container itself virtua

The SM 24 accepts a wide range of sources. Co 60 sources with activities up to a 376 TBq (1000 Ci) are currently available.
